Metal Down Under is now available for purchase or rent on iTunes.

After the fantastic response to the film since its release on DVD in Australia on 22nd August the DVD has received great reviews from Heavy Mag, Rolling Stone, Blunt, Loud Online SF Media and many, many more magazines, websites and radio shows. It has also been released recently on DVD in the UK and Europe through Plastic Head Distribution.

The documentary is available for download in 3 parts as either HD (1080p) or SD (720p).

iTunes ReleaseWhat people have said…

“If you haven’t paid much attention to the Aussie scene but would like to know where to start, watch this documentary – it should set you on the right path.” 4 Stars. Rod Whitfield (SF Media)

“Nick Calpakdjian has made a funny and engrossing film that finally sheds a light on a part of Australia’s popular culture that has been left in the dark for its entire existence, a vital and important document that even people who couldn’t care less about heavy metal should see. After spending two years of his life on this, he deserves nothing but respect.” Brian Giffin (Loud Online)

“It’s a cliché, but anyone who is a fan of Australian heavy metal really needs to check out Metal Down Under. It’s not just flat out entertaining, but also a walk through history to show us all how we got to where we are today. Just be warned this doco can also make middle aged metal fans like myself begin to feel like an old fogey.” Dave Griffiths (Heavy Mag)

If you have the DVD and don’t want the iTunes version, do us a favour and click the link and rate the film and leave a comment if you have time. All helps a little film get noticed in a busy world. Thanks for the support!

Since the late 1970’s a thriving underground scene of extreme music has continued to evolve in Australia. Metal Down Under takes a look at the bands, people and events that have shaped this unique slice of Australian history.

More than just the music, we meet the characters that make metal in Australia what it is today. From promoters, radio hosts and magazine editors, to band members and extreme fans, Metal Down Under introduces you to a world you either didn’t want to know existed, or have been a part of all your life.

It’s been a great 7 weeks since we launched Metal Down Under and the response to the DVD has been overwhelming. We’ve received numerous emails and Facebook messages from fans who are telling us what they love about the film (and a few telling us what we did wrong :-) ). And it’s been awesome to see all the photos of people representing the t-shirt and stubby holders in fine fashion. We’re also really stoked to see that Metal Down Under has remained in the ARIA Music DVD Charts since its launch with a peak position of Number 4.

We’ve got some more big announcements to make too…

Matt Young

Matt Young

Firstly, we’ve got an iTunes version of the series coming later this month with a release date to be announced very soon. This is good news for all of you who have been requesting a HD version of the film and for those outside of Oz who baulk at the cost of postage (and who can blame you).

Secondly, we’ve secured a distribution deal with Plastic Head in the UK for the DVD to be released in the UK and Europe. The official release date is November 10th 2014. This is also good news for those fans of Aussie metal from overseas that have been baulking at the cost of postage!!

And lastly, we’ll be announcing a few promo’s over the next week for those yet to purchase a copy of the film. So look out for news of this from our Facebook page as well as the Utopia Records Facebook page.

In the meantime, we hope that those of you have already bought the film, enjoy it, watch it with your mates and spread the word of Aussie metal. For those of you yet to grab a copy, head out to one of the many stores stocking the film. And if you get there and find it out of stock, tell them to get it in quickly for you or order it online through our shop or our mates at Heavy Metal Merchant. Full store listings below!
